Galactic dark matter effects from purely geometrical aspects of general relativity

چکیده

We study disk galaxies in the framework of general relativity to focus on possibility that, even low energy limit, there are relevant corrections with respect purely Newtonian approach. Our analysis encompasses model by considering both a expansion and exact solutions, making clear connection between these different approaches. In particular, we two limits: well-known gravitomagnetic analogy new called ``strong gravitomagnetism,'' which has $c$ same order as terms. show that limits class solutions can account for observed flat velocity profile, is contrary what happens using models, where dark matter contribution required. Hence, suggest geometrical origin certain amount effects.

Relativity Resolves Galactic Rotation Without Exotic Dark Matter

A galaxy is modeled as a stationary axially symmetric pressure-free fluid in general relativity. For the weak gravitational fields under consideration, the field equations and the equations of motion ultimately lead to one linear and one non-linear equation relating the angular velocity to the fluid density. It is shown that the rotation curves for the Milky Way, NGC 3031, NGC 3198 and NGC 7331...

6 Comment on “ General Relativity Resolves Galactic Rotation Without Exotic Dark Matter

The general relativistic model of Cooperstock & Tieu, which attempts to fit rotation curves of spiral galaxies without invoking dark matter, is tested empirically using observations of the Milky Way. In particular, predictions for the mass density in the solar neighbourhood and the vertical density distribution at the position of the Sun are compared with observations. It is shown that the mode...

Charmonium suppression from purely geometrical effects

The extend to which geometrical effects contribute to the production and suppression of the J/ψ and qq minijet pairs in general is investigated for high energy heavy ion collisions at SPS, RHIC and LHC energies. For the energy range under investigation, the geometrical effects referred to are shadowing and anti-shadowing, respectively. Due to those effects, the parton distributions in nuclei de...

Tests of General Relativity at Large Distances and Dark Matter

The most simple observed cases of gravitational lensing of distant quasars and galaxies by galaxies and clusters of galaxies are used to test Einstein’s theory of General Relativity and Newtonian Gravity over galactic and intergalactic distances. They extend the distance range over which Newton-Einstein Gravity has been tested by 10 orders of magnitude. Although the precision of the tests are f...

Dark Energy: Beyond General Relativity?

The late-time accelerated expansion of the universe is a major challenge for cosmology. It may well be that a solution to this problem will require a theory of gravitation beyond General Relativity. It is emphasized that precision cosmology will strongly constrain the possibilities by using observational data probing the background as well as the inhomogeneities.
